The new poll, released last night from Opinium, had Labour trailing behind on 22 per cent and the Tories even lower on just 17 per cent.

It shows the two main parties floundering as voters abandon them for failing to get us out of the EU.

And Remainer parties the Lib Dems and the Greens have seen huge boosts too as they try desperately to keep us in.

Mr Farage said yesterday: “Historic moment as the Brexit Party takes the lead in a national poll.”

The poll is significant as it asks people how they would vote in a general election if there were one tomorrow.

Due to the way the British system works they would be unlikely to get the most seats, but would win the popular vote.

Despite being only set up seven weeks ago, Mr Farage’s party stormed the European elections earlier this month.

The party picked up 29 of the UK’s 73 seats with Labour reduced to ten and the Tories down to four MEPs.

Yesterday Mr Farage went to Peterborough to rally around his party’s candidate for the by-election there.

He told The Sun last week he thinks the result will be “genuinely very close”.

Today President Trump made another incredible intervention into British politics with a call to get Mr Farage into Brexit negotiations.

He told The Sunday Times: “I like Nigel a lot. He has a lot to offer. He is a very smart person. They won’t bring him in. Think how well they would do if they did. They just haven’t figured that out yet.”

Mr Trump said: “I hear he has done very well. I think he has got a lot to offer.

“Obviously a lot of people agree with me because I saw his numbers and they were very good. I will say very strongly he loves your country.”

Last week Mr Farage revealed that he won’t be expecting to meet his friend Mr Trump when he comes to the UK this week – claiming No10 have asked his team not to put anything in the diary.

He also revealed the three Tory leadership hopefuls he might be able to work with on Brexit.

And he cracked up reading mean and hilarious tweets about him from rude trolls.
