Nicole Scherzinger tells of bulimia battle as she vows to go easier on herself

Nicole Scherzinger faced down her body demons on a spaghetti and sunshine holiday on the Italian island of Capri.

The Pussycat Dolls star posted on Instagram: “I have struggled with my weight and image my whole life and I still do but I’m just realising as the moons go by, to take it easier on myself.

“Life is too short. We spend too much time beating ourselves down as opposed to talking ourselves up.

“I realised I’m too grown up and need to not to be so hard on myself

“I have to choose to embrace me and my body through all of its stages and seasons.

“This season I’m grateful for the body I’ve worked so hard for in the gym.

“Now I am rewarding myself by eating my weight in pasta here in one of my favourite places.”

There is not much evidence of carb consumption or what she calls “voluptuous celebration” on her Instagram page.

The pictures are of Scherzinger practising yoga in a purple bikini, holding on to her hat on a yacht trip round the Bay of Naples and looking superglam in enormous diamonds and a slinky evening gown.

But the 40-year-old, a former X Factor judge , struggled with bulimia at the height of her fame. Fronting the Pussycat Dolls, performing in lingerie and little else, she developed the eating disorder and suffered for eight years.

She recalled the time saying: “I started losing my voice, I couldn’t sing at shows. My manager finding me passed out on the floor.

“I thought, I’m going to lose everything I love if I don’t love myself.”

While selling 54 million records with the Pussycat Dolls, Scherzinger hid the condition from family, friends and the other members of the band. She described it as “an addiction”.

She recalled: “It’s sad to see how I wasted my life. I had such a great life on the outside, the Dolls were on top of the world but I was miserable on the inside.

“I’m never letting that happen again.”
