Nicole Kidman may be one of the most recognisable women in world but fans had to have a double take on her most recent Instagram post.

The Australian actress is currently filming for new Amazon series Expats – a drama based on the 2016 novel The Expatriates by Janice Y. K. Lee.

Nicole, 54, is one of the executive producers on the series and will also play the main lead, Margaret, which follows the vibrant lives of a close-knit and wealthy expatriate community.

The project began last year during the height of the coronavirus pandemic in Hong Kong, which sparked controversy in the country as Kidman was granted an exemption from the mandatory seven-day hotel quarantine to start filming straight away.

Hong Kong authorities insisted that the exemption was “for the purpose of performing designated professional work, taking into account that it is conducive to maintaining the necessary operation and development of Hong Kong’s economy”, although residents objected to the perceived double standards shown towards celebrity visitors.

Filming has resumed for the upcoming show and Nicole took the time to post photos on Wednesday alongside director Lulu Wang.

The post, which had the caption: “Back at work with the incomparable @ThumbeLulu “, caught the attention of fans due to the complexion of the Academy Award-winning actress.

Posing at a table behind a window with Wang, a smiling Nicole showcased her blemish-free skin which appeared taut and make-up free. In the series of photographs, she is laughing and talking with her fellow executive producer.

Nicole Kidman won an Oscar for Best Actress in 2003 for her portrayal of writer Virginia Woolf in the drama film The Hours and has had four further Academy Awards nominations during her career – three for Best Actress and one for Best Supporting Actress.

She has had 18 nominations for the Golden Globe Awards, winning on six occasions, while she took home her only BAFTA Film Award in 2003 for Best Actress in a Leading Role for The Hours.

Kidman has the highest active Order of Australia honour available following the demise of the Knights and Dames in 2015 when she was appointed Companion of the Order of Australia in 2006.

Only a quota of 30 people a year were appointed at the time she was honoured but that has since been increased to 35.
