Nicola Sturgeon says Janey Godley 'knows what she's really thinking'

Nicola Sturgeon has praised Janey Godley’s parody videos and says it’s like she knows exactly what she’s thinking.

Comedian Janey has been remastering the First Minister’s speeches for a while now and always has her fans in stitches with her hilarious patter.

Nicola Sturgeon has now spoken in an interview with Original 106 FM, where she praised Janey, even though she sometimes uses foul language.

The First Minister said: “Janey Godley is a brilliant comedian in my view, and her voice overs are very, very funny. They are very rude in terms of the language that’s used so sometimes I don’t feel I can retweet them but they are very, very funny.

Ms Sturgeon said she really admires how Janey uses comedy to get the real message across.

She said: “The really clever thing she is doing with them right now is making people laugh but if you listen to them carefully she is getting the key messages across very, very powerfully.

She added: “And so if humour helps us to make people understand what we should be doing right now then all well and good so I think she’s doing well on that front.

And Scotland’s First Minister said it’s funny that Janey sometimes portrays exactly what she was thinking.

She said: “She’s been doing these voice overs for quite a while, and let me just say not all the time but occasionally I watch them and I think, yeah … she must have an insight into what I was really thinking at that point but I wasn’t able to say it and she manages to voice it in her particular style.”

This week, Janey recreated one of Nicola’s speeches about PPE in Scotland and spoke about protective facemasks and many were left in stitches over her choice of words.

She says: “We’re going to be talking about face masks today and covering up yer mooth when yir hinging about the supermarket.

“When you have to go oot cover up that big hole in front of yer heid, that’s aw I’m saying.”

The video was viewed over 160,000 times online and Twitter users thanked her for providing them some light-relief.

One said: “Absolutely fantastic. You made my day. Howling at this.”

Another wrote: “I can’t watch Nicola without hearing your voice. Thank you for doing these, you’re bringing a lot of people a lot of joy in these sh**** times.”
