Nicola Roberts gushes over Geri Halliwell as she recalls her undying support


Nicola Roberts is looking back at her career as she expresses her gratitude for inspiring women who supported her at the beginning of her career.

The Girls Loud star, 34, has opened up about how Spice Girl Geri Halliwell impacted her time on Popstar: The Rivals in the best way.

Speaking on the Castaway podcast, Nicola told host Laura Whitmore : “I just felt young, really young and I went up and I sang, and I did my thing and I remember Geri came running off and she was my favourite as well! So, I was just like ‘I don’t know what is happening right now!’

“My whole life has been like ‘I don’t know what is happening right now!’”

Nicola Roberts has reflected on her career

Nicola then went on to recall her first encounter with Ginger Spice.

She said: “She was like, ‘You have something so special and I’m rooting for you and you sound so good’. It’s funny, throughout my whole career, it’s always been women, from the very start.

“It’s always been a certain type of woman, like Geri was always the one who championed me through Popstar: The Rivals.”

Nicola praised Geri Halliwell for her support

Nicola went on to praise theatre director Josie O’Rourke for giving her a chance.

She added: “Josie O’Rourke was my first director, she’s a woman and its always been a strong female that has just given me a chance and that’s the kind of person that I am drawn to.”

It comes as Nicola Roberts recently revealed she’d be on board with reuniting Girls Aloud once again.

“We’re two years away from an anniversary in 2022, I would love to get back with the girls and put on a big show, put it on for the fans really. That was our favourite thing to do, to do a show.

“I think we have to cross that bridge when the anniversary comes to see where we’re all at.”

The band were formed back in 2002 during TV talent show Popstars: The Rivals.
