N’Golo Kante has praised Timo Werner and Kai Havertz following Chelsea’s defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.

Two goals from Sadio Mane secured victory for the Premier League champions at Stamford Bridge.

Werner is still searching for his first Chelsea goal despite showing signs of promise against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Havertz, meanwhile, was played in a more advanced role against Liverpool but struggled to make an impact as a false nine.

However, Kante has been impressed with the impact the German duo have made at Chelsea.

Asked for his thoughts on the arrivals of Werner and Havertz, Kante told Chelsea TV: ‘I think this is Chelsea, like every team some players leave, some players come.

‘I think today it was the debut for Timo and Kai at Stamford Bridge, I think they did well, they need to come with the team.

‘We need to do better together. Today we were unlucky with how the game went.

‘But I think they are good players, they give us quality in offensive positions. We need to do better as a team to have better results in the season.’

Kante also admits Chelsea faced difficulty after they were reduced to 10 men when Andreas Christensen was sent off shortly before half time.

‘It was not easy especially when in the first half we were good in the game, we had some situations, we could’ve done better with the last choices,’ said the World Cup winner.

‘But when they had a man advantage and [we had] 10 men in the second half it was difficult. We know Liverpool are a good team, they keep the ball and make the opponent run, so it was not easy.

‘They scored early in the second half and then the second goal put us in difficulty. We had the penalty and we were unlucky to not finish the game with a better result.’

Kante was also asked about a situation in the first half where he received the ball inside the box but opted to play backwards instead of shoot.

‘I thought about a shot with the first touch but I thought that the opponent would counter the ball, so I decided to keep the ball,’ he said.

‘It’s something to reflect about and maybe in the next game and the next time in the season I could do better.’
