Neymar transfer fresh twist as Barcelona offer 'does not meet PSG demands'

Paris Saint-Germain are yet to agree a deal with Barcelona for Neymar because their ‘demands have not been met’, according to the club’s sporting director Leonardo.

Barcelona are attempting to re-sign the Brazilian star before the European transfer window closes on September 2, but have been unable to agree reach an agreement with the French champions.

Spanish rivals Real Madrid are also thought to be interested in the 27-year-old, but the forward is understood to favour a return to the Nou Camp, where he spent four seasons.

Several reports on Thursday suggested that Barcelona had finally reached an agreement for Neymar, but Leonardo insisted that the La Liga giants are still yet to meet PSG’s valuation of the player.

Neymar is understood to want a return to Barcelona

Speaking after the club’s 2-0 win over Metz on Friday, which Neymar missed, he said: “The first time we received a proposal from Barcelona for Neymar was on August 27.

“They have not yet given us an offer which has met our demands.

“PSG’s position on Neymar has always been clear: if a satisfactory offer arrives then he could leave but that is not the case.

“The negotiations have not broken down but there’s no agreement for now because our demands have not been met.”

After paying a world-record fee of £200million to bring the Brazil international to the Parc des Princes two years ago, it is understood that PSG are looking to recoup most of that sum.

Leonardo said Barcelona haven’t met PSG’s demands

And although Leonardo admitted he is aware of the player’s desire to leave, he was adamant that he would be happy to keep the forward if the club did not receive a suitable bid.

“Neymar has always made it clear that he wants to leave but no-one has enough money to buy him,” he added.

“And if an offer doesn’t arrive which we think is worth it, he will stay.

“He’s an extraordinary player but his relationship with the club isn’t the best right now.”

Leonardo’s comments came after Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde admitted he was looking forward to the transfer window closing so that speculation over his side’s transfer activity would come to an end.

“I am really looking forward to that day — September 2 — so that we can all get some rest at last and know what we have for the season as it has gone on too long,” Valverde said earlier on Friday ahead of the La Liga game at Osasuna.

“Neymar is a PSG player and as always we respect all our rivals, but I reiterate that I’m looking forward to this ending once and for all.”
