Next UK general election odds 2019: Tories on course for win after bookies price them at 10/11 to secure majority

The Tory Party is heading for a general election win if a snap poll was to take place in December, according to the bookies.

Boris Johnson’s party is now odds-on to secure the Parliamentary majority the Prime Minister craves with the UK on course for pre-Christmas election.

Bookies slashed the odds on the Tory party wining a general election after Labour announced it would back a December 12 poll now a no-deal Brexit was “off the table”.

Jeremy Corbyn’s party now looks set to back a move being pushed by the Government to have an election on December 12.

Boris Johnson fails to force snap general election on December 12

Betfair have priced the odds of a Tory Part win at 10/11 to secure an overall majority in the Commons, while the odds of a Labour majority are way back at 23/1 – amongst the longest odds they have had over the past two years.

The Lib Dems however have been listed at 99/1 to win an overall majority, with the Brexit Party at 159/1.

The Conservatives are also heading for the most seats at the next election, with Betfair pricing them at 2/13. Labour are at 9/1 to win the most seats, with the Lib Dems at 35/1 and “any other” party listed at 64/1.

Labour’s backing comes ahead of the Government’s bid to convince MPs to back a poll on December 12 – the fourth time Boris Johnson has attempted to push for a general election.

The Labour leader had previously being hesitant to back such a vote due to the possibility of a no deal departure from the EU.

But despite his fresh stance, it does not mean a December election is guaranteed, with Labour expected to support amendments to the Bill.

Labour is understood to back a change to the proposed date and if such an amendment is selected by the Speaker it could be backed by the Liberal Democrats and the SNP.

The Lib Dems have not ruled out backing it but want the date set on December 9, while the SNP has asked for a “cast-iron guarantee” the PM will not bring his Brexit deal back to the Commons to secure its support.

Mr Johnson meanwhile is pushing hard for a December 12 electio nahead of schedule because he wants to restore his party’s majority in the Commons, with the hope that it could end the political logjam over Brexit.

If the Tory party regains its majority, it will make it easier to pass any Brexit deal he puts forward.

Betfair spokesperson Katie Baylis said: “With Labour finally confirming they will back a December election, the biggest question will be can Boris Johnson secure the majority he is so desperately after, and according to Betfair Exchange the answer is yes.

£The Tories are odds-on for the first time since the last election at odds of 10/11 for an overall majority, with no overall majority at 11/10. It’s no surprise Labour were so reluctant to go to the polls as they are at odds of 23/1, the biggest odds they’ve had since that last election.”
