Howe, who turned 44 on Monday, signed a three-year deal as Magpies boss as he aims to transfer the side from bottom half regulars to European contenders.
The Amersham-born manager knew he was taking over a troubled side upon his arrival, with the Magpies on five points from 11 games at the time.
Yet they now sit on just six points from 13, six adrift of Leeds who occupy the last survival spot in 17th.
Having not won a game all season, being the only side not to do so in England’s top four divisions, Howe may be looking for alternatives and will be hoping to make signings in January to quickly boost his sides’ precarious predicament.
