New Zealand is set to be the Filming Location for ‘Avatar 2’

The global pandemic took its toll on every single industry all over the world. This includes the film industry too which has had to put on hold the production of countless movies and shows which left a lot of people uncertain and disappointed, including the people working in the industry and the fans who were looking forward to the release of their favorite films. And one of the films that people were especially looking forward to which was the sequel to ‘Avatar’ is now finally rumored to be going into the filming stage in New Zealand which has been on hold for a couple of months now.

The reason why a lot of people want this movie to come out as soon as possible is that no one has forgotten the impact the movie ‘Avatar’ had on its viewers when it was released in 2009. This happened because this masterpiece by James Cameron brought the technology of 3D films into the mainstream. It was so huge that it inspired countless games, a bunch of online casino slots for real money which has only grown in popularity, and many other shows and movies. Online casino games fans in New Zealand or elsewhere have all seen casino slots based on Avatar, with the game also being immensely successful in the online gambling world, akin to the movie’s success.

The popularity of this movie is depicted very clearly in the fact that it was the highest-grossing movie of all time for almost a decade before being recently overtaken by ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ But it is still holding second place on the list. And now fans are waiting for the sequel to this movie and they have very high expectations, as they should. Because of this, the news that ‘Avatar 2’ will be released sometime in December 2021, being pushed back a year due to the pandemic, has been met with a lot of anticipation and joy by countless fans.

In other news, James Cameron shared his plans of making this a long-running saga with movies planned for release every other year until December 2027 when ‘Avatar 5’ will be released. Even though this is way far into the future, we do know that ‘Avatar 2’ and ‘Avatar 3’ have both finished principal filming. All of the shooting that has been done so far has been with green screens and motion capture, but there is also quite a lot of filming which needs to be done on location and New Zealand is the perfect place for that.

Another thing that contributed to New Zealand being chosen as the main location for filming was that the government of the country eased restrictions to allow film crews to return to the country and so that movies and TV shows can come back and resume shooting schedules once again. At the same time, the government of New Zealand has also announced a relief package for the sector worth just under $75 million. $50 million of these funds will be used to produce up to 5 different movies and series, while the remaining money will be distributed to cover the increased costs of filming due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The aim of the government by doing so was to ensure that New Zealand’s own productions, as well as projects which are employing New Zealanders, are not affected by the shortfall of funding during the crisis. Additionally, $25 million more will be spent by New Zealand On Air over the next few years to ensure that people and communities of color are given proper information about the projects that are going forward.

And now with ‘Avatar 2’ finally getting into the filming stage on, it is no surprise that fans are all waiting to see whether Cameron can pull off another epic movie and make the sequel just as exciting as the original ‘Avatar’.
