The clean beauty market is absolutely booming right now as beauty lovers seek out ethical and sustainable brands.

It’s no surprise then, that Biossance, a brand created in the same lab in California by the same scientists who discovered an accessible cure for malaria, has a global following of fans. Until now the brand has only been available in the US, where it has a loyal legion of fans. Thankfully for skincare addicts here in the UK, the brand has now launched exclusively on Cult Beauty and we are going to be stockpiling the stuff.

The beauty line features eight of their dermatologist-approved, non-toxic, vegan and cruelty-free products ranging from oils, serums, creams and gels which all contain the star of the show – squalane.

It sounds clinical and high-tech, we know, but squalane is simply the stable form of what our own skin naturally produces and just like collagen, it depletes as we get older, leaving our skin requiring some much-needed TLC. Squalane mimics our skin’s natural hydration and keeps our skin’s outer layer moisturised and protected. Unlike many leading brands, who produce their squalane from shark liver, Biossance makes theirs from renewable sugarcane meaning it’s 100% plant-based, and this skincare favourite is now totally sustainable and eco-friendly. Yaaaas.

Soon to become a staple to your skincare routine, Biossance 100% squalane oil retails at £27 and can be used on the face and body to lock in moisture, improve elasticity and plump up fine lines. It can even be used on your hair to tame those fly-aways and calm frizz. We predict a sell-out.

Other products worth parting with your hard-earned cash for are the Squalane + Omega Repair Cream at £46, a deeply hydrating moisturiser enriched with lipids and ceramides to plump and smooth your complexion. There’s also a Squalane + Antioxidant Cleansing Oil at £25, which is ultra-lightweight and draws makeup and impurities from your skin to reveal a fresh-faced, healthy radiance. The Squalane + Phyto-Retinol Serum at £61 is powered by the plant-derived retinol alternative, bakuchiol which promises to diminish visible lines and wrinkles whilst encouraging elasticity of the skin.

Biossance has been verified by the Environmental Working Group and formulates their products using the latest sustainable methods with no deforestation. They are developed in far proximity from rainforests and with a low water usage. The products are housed in FSC certified conscious packaging made from sustainable sugarcane fibre.

The price ranges from £25 to £61 but the 5-star reviews speak for themselves as the expert-approved formulas and eco-friendly credentials deliver the results they promise. Race you to Cult Beauty’s site!
