New Vans sneaker collection features Frida Kahlo’s iconic artwork

Vans‘ latest artistic collaboration will honour Frida Kahlo, who was best known for her self-portraits and paintings inspired by Mexico.

The announcement comes a year after the footwear label created a sell-out collection with the Van Gogh Museum

Mixing Vans’ classic skate shoes with some of the Mexican artist’s most famous works, the unique collection features three different styles.

You don’t need to be an avid art fan to immediately recognise the Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird painting (1940) adorned on a classic OG Slip-On.

The Vans OG Sk8-Hi design has the subtler Las Dos Fridas artwork, which depicts two Kahlo’s holding hands contrasted with a dark green toe cap.

A summer-ready watermelon print with embroidered detail on the timeless Authentic Vans makes up the final pair in the collection. The Viva la Vida painting was created in 1954 just days before Kahlo’s death – perfectly rounding up the tribute collection.
