New The Last Of Us Part 2 release date is June says Amazon

After all the fuss about its delay The Last Of Us Part 2 may be out sooner than you expect, if the new Amazon listing is correct.

The Last Of Us Part 2 has already been delayed once before, so missing its planned 29 May release date wasn’t that big of a surprise, especially with the chaos caused by the coronavirus.

But not only did the game get delayed, it was delisted from the PlayStation Store and digital pre-orders were refunded, which seemed to suggest it was going to be a long wait until it finally came out.

And yet Amazon.com in the US just updated its listing for the game to give a 26 June release date, before suddenly removing it completely.

On the face of it, a delay of less than a month seems highly unlikely given how much of a fuss was kicked up but there are actually quite a few reasons to think the new date is real, starting with the fact that Sony has refunded pre-orders before for relatively minor delays – such as the little more than a month delay for the Shadow Of The Colossus remake.

There’s also the fact that the game is essentially finished and that when Naughty Dog first announced the delay they said they were, ‘hoping that this won’t be a long delay’ and gave the impression that it would be out by around June or July.

And then there’s the fact that while Amazon has now removed the listing for the game (the above screengrab is from Game Rant) they do have the art book as coming out on 23 June.

Finally, there’s the fact that 26 June is the currently stated release date for fellow Sony game Ghost Of Tsushima. If you were going to delay The Last Of Us Part 2 by a month or so then you wouldn’t want the two coming out so close together, so giving Naughty Dog the earlier release date and delaying Ghost Of Tsushima until the autumn does make some kind of sense.

Or maybe this is all just simple mistake and The Last Of Us Part 2 isn’t even coming out this year anymore. Given that alternative let’s all hope this latest rumour is true.

It would be odd if the art book came out and there was still no sign of the game (pic: Amazon)
