Director Masahiro Sakurai will be personally unveiling the fifth Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC character in a livestream in a couple of days.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players have been growing crazy over the lack of any announcement regarding the final character to be included as part of the game’s Fighters Pass, to the point where they’ve been combing through director Masahiro Sakurai’s own Twitter for even a hint at who it could be.

But the agonising wait will soon be over, as it has been announced that the next fighter will be officially revealed in a Smash-centric livestream that Sakurai himself will be presenting this Thursday, at 2pm UK time.

There really isn’t anything to go on but, within less than half an hour of the announcement, fans have already begun trying to guess who this mystery character will be, believing that Sakurai’s pose in the picture is some sort of hint. Some have pointed out that the date of the livestream coincides with a date mentioned by the official Devil May Cry Twitter account. Is this hinting that Dante will be joining the fight?

Aside from this, other popular names being thrown around include Waluigi, Crash Bandicoot, Master Chief and Sora, despite some leakers claiming that those last two won’t be the fifth fighter. These same leakers also said that Dante wouldn’t be the one either, but time will tell how accurate these claims are.

One interesting detail we can discern is the fact that the stream will be roughly 35 minutes long and provide an in-depth look at the character. Previous DLC fighters like Banjo-Kazooie and Terry all received presentations like this as well, but they all came after their announcements. This could mean that development on this character is close to completion and we may not have to wait that much longer for them to be released.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available on Nintendo Switch.
