New Panzer Dragoon game announced for VR

There’s going to be a brand new Panzer Dragoon game out next year that recreates the classic titles in virtual reality.

We would say that Sega is about to bring back another classic franchise, but as with most of their recent retro revivals – from Shenmue 3 to Streets Of Rage 4 – they don’t really have anything to do with it themselves.

Instead, Panzer Dragoon: Voyage Record is being developed and published by Japanese firm Wildman, who have already made a VR game called The Gunner Of Dragoon, that has nothing to do with Sega’s series.

But now they’re working on an officially licensed product called Panzer Dragoon: Voyage Record, which will recreate various set pieces from Panzer Dragoon 1 and 2, and Panzer Dragoon Saga (there’s no mention of Panzer Dragoon Orta).

The deal appears to be similar to the recent Space Channel 5 VR game, which didn’t have anything to do with Sega either and was instead by separate company Grounding.

Panzer Dragoon VR will be out next March but it’s currently unclear on what formats, but it would certainly be strange if it didn’t include PlayStation VR.

Remakes of the first two Panzer Dragoon games were announced some time ago now but they’ve been repeatedly delayed and are still only scheduled for some time this year.

The same developer (again, not Sega themselves) are also planning to remake The House Of The Dead but it’s still unclear how that’s going to work without any lightguns.
