New on Hulu: Amy Schumer, more ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ and all the ‘Designing Women’

BEVERLY HILLS – Hulu is getting into business with Amy Schumer.

The stand-up comedian and former Comedy Central star, whose “Inside Amy Schumer” sketch series last aired in 2016, has signed a new deal with the streaming service for new projects, and first up is “Love, Beth,” a comedy she’s created, will star in, produce, direct and write.

The news was revealed Friday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. But details are scarce on what “Beth” is about: Hulu programming chief Craig Erwich says to expect more details soon.

Also on tap: A fourth season of the dystopian Emmy-winning “The Handmaid’s Tale,” starring Elisabeth Moss, Hulu’s biggest breakout.

And on Aug. 26, the service will add to its library the entire catalog of CBS comedy “Designing Women,” which aired from 1986-93.

In other Hulu news:

  • Mahershala Ali will guest star in the second season of comedy “Ramy,” starring Ramy Youssef due next  year.
  • Hulu plans a new food series starring Padma Lakshmi (“Top Chef”).
  • The service will bundle parent Disney’s upcoming Disney+ streaming service, offering it as part of a subscriber package as it now does with live TV and for premium-cable networks.

Among new projects it’s promoting are “Dollface,” a female-centric comedy starring Kat Dennings (“2 Broke Girls), due Nov. 15; “Reprisal,” a revenge drama led by a femme fatale (Abigail Spencer, “Timeless”), coming Dec. 6; “Wu-Tang: An American Saga,” on Sept. 4; and “Looking for Alaska,” a teen drama set at a boarding school based on the John Green novel and produced by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (“Gossip Girl,” “The O.C.”), on Oct. 18. The third season of “Marvel’s Runaways” arrives Dec. 13.
