New Legoland resort in New York postpones grand opening until 2021


THE new Legoland resort in New York has been forced to suspend the grand opening of the park until next year due to coronavirus.

Originally opening this summer, the largest Legoland park in the world will now welcome guests in 2021.

Stephanie Johnson, the Divisional Director of Legoland New York said they were in an “an unprecedented situation that has affected businesses worldwide”.

Anyone with single-day and annual passes to the park will still be able to use them when it eventually opens.

Stephanie added: “By opening Legoland New York Resort in 2021, we are building an attraction that not only meets our high standards, it also gives our guests the best possible experience.”

“We look forward to building unforgettable memories with our guests and their families when we open in 2021.”

The park will feature 50 new rides and attractions across seven themed areas.

It will open in Goshen in New York – approximately 60 miles from New York City – across 500 acres of land.

It will also be more than three times the size of Legoland Windsor, which is just 150 acres.

The seven themed lands will feature a variety of stories and experiences for kids.

Guests will first enter through the Factory, where they can watch the manufacturing process.

Bricktopia land is where guests can construct buildings before testing the strength of their creation through a simulated earthquake.

They can also build a car and race it on a track, as well as play Lego instruments while riding a Duplo train.

The land called Knights’ Kingdom will take kids back in time, featuring a huge Lego castle and dragon rollercoaster.

Other lands include Lego City, with the popular Lego driving school as well as a 4D cinema and Miniland, where cities and landmarks are made in miniature form.

A land sure to be popular is Lego Ninjago World, where kids can learn to be a ninja at the training camp and ride the Spinjitzu spinners.

Wannabe swashbucklers should head to Pirate Shores where they can fight with water cannons and go on a pirate ship ride.

The title of largest Legoland could be taken by two other parks – Legoland South Korea and Legoland Shanghai – which are also in construction.

Troops are to be called to the state of New York to help fight the coronavirus pandemic after Donald Trump declared it a major disaster area.

A CBS2 news report, filmed inside Brookdale Hospital Medical Centre in Brooklyn, shows patients lined up in the hospital corridors which one doctor labelled as a “war zone”.

More than 1,500 people have died from the virus in the state, with 76,000 confirmed cases.
