THE full extent of the injury suffered by England star Joe Gomez in his row with Raheem Sterling was revealed today after training pictures showed a scratch stretching past his stubble.
The England man, 22, was snapped with a red mark under his right eye yesterday as he trained for the first time since his bust-up with the Manchester City forward.
And as Gomez’s snood sat lower this morning, a second scratch could be seen on the defender’s neck.
The ace was grazed by 24-year-old Sterling’s jewellery as his international team-mate tried to get him in a headlock in the canteen.
They were pulled apart by their fellow Three Lions stars as food was sent flying from the tables in the melee.
Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson, who only joined the squad last night as he is suspended for the first qualifier, acted as peacemaker and spoke to both Gomez and Sterling over the phone.
Manchester City flier Sterling has been dropped for tomorrow’s game against Montenegro by a fuming Gareth Southgate.
But after the squad’s leadership group met following his public and private apologies, he has kept his place in the party.
The FA backed manager Southgate’s one-game ban for Sterling and are now considering a misconduct charge for the winger.
SunSport revealed the fight began after Gomez offered a handshake and Sterling asked “Still the big man?” in reference to their row in Sunday’s Premier League showdown.
The title rivals squared up to each other in the dying minutes of Liverpool’s 3-1 win.
Sterling will have the chance to add to his 55 Three Lions appearances against Kosovo, while seven-cap Gomez is in line to face Montenegro.
