New details emerge of Rami Malek's Bond villain in 'No Time To Die'

Other than Rami Malek making clear he didn’t want his Bond villain to have any religious motivation, we’re somewhat in the dark about his role in Not Time To Die.

We’ve only recently discovered his name – Safin.

But producer Barbara Broccoli has now given us a little more about the last villain Daniel Craig’s 007 will face.

“We’ve thrown the book at him on this one,” Broccoli told Empire. “He is really the supervillain. He’s the one that really gets under Bond’s skin. He’s a nasty piece of work.”

Over the summer, Malek said that he’d spoken to producers and director Cary Fukunaga about the motivations of the character.

“I said, ‘We cannot identify him with any act of terrorism reflecting an ideology or religion,’” he told the Daily Mirror.

“’That’s not something I would entertain, so if that is why I am your choice then you can count me out.’”

He continued: “That was clearly not [Fukunaga’s] vision. He’s a very different kind of terrorist.”

We also have from the movie’ official synopsis that Safin is ‘a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology’.

Meanwhile, we got our first proper look at Bond on Saturday, with Empire dropping an exclusive picture on social media.

There’s a definite hipster vibe going on, with Craig slightly bloodied and wearing an old fashioned button up vest and braces.

Perhaps he’s just off to his first day of barista training.

Also starring Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Lea Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Jeffrey Wright, Ana De Armas and Lashana Lynch, No Time To Die arrives in the UK on April 3, 2020.
