According to Nameberry, a number of gem-inspired monikers have recently climbed the popularity charts.

They’re not the ones that would usually spring to mind – current favourites such as Jade and Ruby have plateaued, while Crystal, Amber and Diamond have all fallen out of favour.

Instead, the names of the moment are a mix of vintage comebacks and modern jewels.

They’re even big for boys, with Onyx becoming one of the fastest-rising boys’ names in 2018.

So, would you go for one?

Meanwhile, one mum has demanded her pal changes her dog’s name – because she wants to use it for her daughter.
