PICKING a baby name for your little boy or girl can be a hugely difficult task.
In a bid to find something unique, mums-to-be are turning somewhere different – gemstones.
According to Nameberry, a number of gem-inspired monikers have recently climbed the popularity charts.
They’re not the ones that would usually spring to mind – current favourites such as Jade and Ruby have plateaued, while Crystal, Amber and Diamond have all fallen out of favour.
Instead, the names of the moment are a mix of vintage comebacks and modern jewels.
They’re even big for boys, with Onyx becoming one of the fastest-rising boys’ names in 2018.
