Neville outlines 5 things that must happen as coronavirus threatens season

Gary Neville has outlined five things that he feels must happen to patch things up in the Premier League amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The spread of COVID-19 has seen all professional football in England suspended until April 30, but there is no guarantee things will resume after this date.

Some have suggested resuming the season at a later date, when things are back to normal, so that it can reach its conclusion.

While others have suggested cancelling this campaign and restarting things next season.

Neville is firmly in the first camp, and believes everything should be done to ensure this current campaign concludes with a champion named, four sides in the Champions League, and three teams relegated.

The former Manchester United star took to Twitter to outline his five-step plan.

It reads: “Finish this season in a short time frame when safe.

“Condense next season if needed.

“Open transfer window from May and run it all the way through 20/21 to give clubs agility.

“Extend player contracts to complete 19/20.

“Financial packages for clubs in need including non-league.”

Neville took to Twitter amid claims certain players are concerned they will have to play too many games in a short space of time to conclude the season.

While the former Red Devils right-back accepts this will likely be the case, he added: “Yes. It’s not going to be ideal for sports science but it will happen when safe to do so I’m sure.

“Whether we like it or not with it being for economical reasons the £750million at stake is too big a number. Some clubs would be in big trouble as they’ve spent it already!”
