Netherlands boss Frank de Boer is confident Donny van de Beek’s situation at Manchester United will improve.

The 23-year-old, who was signed from Ajax in a £40 million deal this summer, has still not started a Premier League game for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

Former United left-back Patrice Evra has also questioned United’s decision to sign Van de Beek and claims the midfielder ‘was not needed’.

Van de Beek has now joined up with Netherlands’ national side for the international break and De Boer is relaxed over the midfielder’s future with his club.

‘Of course I try to give him as much confidence as possible, I also showed that by letting him play against Italy [in the previous international break]. He did a pretty nice job,’ De Boer said at his press conference on Tuesday.

‘He is also doing well at Manchester United but they have a fantastic midfield.

‘That’s difficult too but Donny will still get to play enough.

‘Of course he wants more but you also have to get used to a different competition.

‘He will experience that too, let’s hope he will eventually get more minutes. In any case, he is equipped, so we can use him well.’
