Netflix has teased a special event featuring the cast of classic 1991 comedy Father Of The Bride.

Starring Steve Martin and Diane Keaton, it follows dad George Banks, played by Martin, who struggles to come to terms with his daughter getting married. Keaton played his wife Nina.

A video posted to Twitter on Wednesday imagines George Banks checking his emails.

Bringing things up to date there are messages in his inbox from ‘Masks-R-Us’ and one reading: ‘Just when we thought 2020 couldn’t get worse…’

And as a nice touch they added in one from the thorn in George’s side, eccentric wedding planner Franck Eggelhoffer (Martin Short).

He clicks on one from his daughter Annie (played by Kimberly Williams-Paisley in the film) who has sent him digitised wedding photos from her big day all those years ago.

Afterwards he clicks on an email from Matty (played by Kieran Culkin) reminding him to join their upcoming video call.

Matty writes: ‘Dad are you coming to the video call? And yes…I checked, it doesn’t cost anything so accept the calender invite, okay?’

Underneath the invite, the date given is September 25.

A message, written in the style of a wedding invitation, pops up: ’25 years later, the Banks family returns for a very special event.’

The reunion is in aid of World Central Kitchen, a non-profit organisation which provides meals in wake of natural disasters.

The event takes place on Friday at 3pm PT/6pm ET (which is 11pm here) on Netflix’s YouTube and Facebook pages.

It comes after director and co-writer Nancy Meyers teased a potential reunion on Instagram, sharing a pixelated image of the movie’s poster.

‘If he thought a wedding was a lot, how would he react to 2020?’ she captioned the post. ‘Coming soon to the phone in your hand!’

Father Of The Bride was a remake of the 1950 film of the same name.
