A CGI reboot of Pokémon: The First Movie is being dropped on Netflix 22 years after it was first released.

Pokémon fans unite as it means we can sit at home wrapped in blankets and cry at the nostalgia.

Titled Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution, the movie looks to be following the plot of the original pretty closely as well as taking on its name.

While the animated flick made its debut in Japan in 2019, this will be the first English-language version.

Similar to the first film, it follows Mewtwo’s origin story as he vows to ‘strike back’ against the scientists who created him after he breaks free.

Of course, it also follows Ash Ketchum’s journey, which inevitably leads to a battle with the man-made Pokémon.

In the new teaser, Pikachu is seen facing off against Mewtwo as he growls: ‘Which of you will oppose me first?’

Ash quickly jumps to Pikachu’s defence, with Mewtwo responding: ‘So you do have some fight in you,’ leaving everyone in doubt as to whether Pikachu is in danger.

If you’re wondering, Misty and Brock join in on the adventures while Team Rocket duo Jesse and James are, naturally, getting up to no good with Meowth in tow.

Now, the style is extremely different from the original’s typical cartoon quality but looks amazing nonetheless.

It’s not even similar to Detective Pikachu’s style, which showed every hair and wrinkle on each Pokémon.

While the style comes across as quite Western, the Pokémon look even cuter than usual so we’re definitely not complaining.

Mewtwo Strikes Back will be available to watch on Netflix on 27 February.
