Neil Warnock's furious reaction to Cardiff's controversial defeat to Chelsea

Furious Neil Warnock faced down referee Craig Pawson and his assistants after Cardiff lost to Chelsea .

Cardiff boss Warnock was incensed after the officials failed to pick up on two penalty shouts for the relegation threatened Bluesbirds, a clear offside goal and a red card for Blues defender Antonio Rudiger.

The worst of the missed offences was Cesar Azpilicueta’s controversial equaliser in the 84th minute.

The Spanish defender was clearly in an offside position as he nodded in after Marcos Alonso flicked on a corner.

Moments later Rudiger hauled down Kenneth Zohore when he was clean through on goal – but the German defender only saw yellow.

To add even more insult to injury, Ruben Loftus-Cheek smashed in a stoppage time winner to pile the pressure onto Cardiff and boost the Blues’ top four hopes.

Cardiff are now five points adrift of Burnley in the relegation places.

The Bluebirds had taken the lead when Real Betis loanee Victor Camarasa volleyed in just after half time.

And after the final whistle, Warnock stood a couple of yards away from Pawson with his hands on his hips staring at the referee.

Defender Sean Morrison said after the match: “I’m just disappointed. We put in such a good performance. The referee has missed two penalties and I’ve been told their first goal was offside by quite a way.

“I am gutted but what can you do? I thought we did enough – the blocks and tackles we put in the way. It hurts. I had a feeling it was offside but you are never sure. We come away with no points and that is that.

“The first one (penalty) when the man grabs my neck, it is tough for the ref, and then there is the second one where he grabbed my arm.

“Last 10 minutes, to concede two goals, things like this don’t go for you when you are at the bottom. We have taken some drubbings this year but we have bounced back.”

Graeme Souness added on Sky Sports: “He will be extremely angry (Warnock) because it wasn’t a difficult decision to get right.

“The linesman must be looking at that and thinking ‘he’s offside’, but he doesn’t. What an earth can he be looking at. No one is obstructing his view. He’s clearly offside.”
