Neil Robertson has continued his sublime run of form by reaching his third consecutive ranking final thanks to a 6-4 victory over Kyren Wilson at the World Grand Prix.

The Australian’s achievement is all the more remarkable as those three events have come in different countries, with his current Cheltenham run coming after winning the European Masters in Austria and finishing runner-up at the German Masters.

Robertson’s latest victory sets up a clash with Graeme Dott on Sunday in a repeat of the 2010 World Championship final, famously won by the Aussie.

‘Yeah trains, planes and automobiles,’ the 37-year-old said of his recent hectic schedule. ‘I’ve been darting around all over the place and nipping back home to watch my son’s football and his training. His team had a big win this morning so I drove back after playing Joe [Perry in the semi-final] and drove back up with a friend today.

‘I’ve been super busy but I’m having a great time.’

Robertson won the Champion of Champions in November but had endured a quiet time in the ranking events over the first half of the season.

That turned around by lifting the trophy in Dornbirn, whitewashing Zhou Yuelong in the final, before losing to world number one Judd Trump in the Berlin final.

The success in Austria included a 5-2 win over Dott in the last 16, which will give Robertson all the more confidence ahead of Sunday’s showpiece.

The Thunder from Down Under looked set to make short work of Wilson in the semi as he raced into a 3-0 lead with breaks of 80, 59 and 77.

However, Wilson is not nicknamed the Warrior for nothing and battled back into the contest.

The Englishman stopped the rot in the fourth and by the time he rolled in a break of 129 in the seventh, he had cut his deficit to 4-3.

Robertson was not to be rattled, though, and both men were in fine break building form by this point.

The former world champ made a 69 to go 5-3 ahead, Wilson built an 84 to stay alive but it was Robertson who got over the line with a 68 in the last.

Robertson and Dott will battle it out for the £100,000 top prize over two sessions and the best of 19 frames on Sunday.

Now ranked number two in the world, Robertson will go in as favourite with the bookmakers, but Dott has been thoroughly impressive this week as well, never more so than when he downed Ronnie O’Sullivan in the quarter-finals.
