Needing to wee in the night is hidden danger sign of something more serious


If you find nature often calls in the middle of the night, it might be something more serious than that last pint, or even a weak bladder.

Scientists have found a link between needing to wee frequently during the night and high blood pressure .

Your risk of this increases by 40 per cent by toilet trips, and the more often you need to go, the higher the chance that you have high blood pressure is.

The implications of this are serious.

It could be a sign of a serious health condition

 

If left untreated, high blood pressure – which affects one in four adults in the UK – can result in strokes and heart attacks.

The findings came from a study Japan’s Tohoku Rosai Hospital, conducted by Dr Satoshi Konno, The Sun reports.

Dr Konno warned the underlying reason could be high salt intake. Japan, compared to countries in the west, traditionally incorporates a lot of salt in dishes.

ESC President Professor Barbara Casadei from the University of Oxford said: “More than one billion people have high blood pressure worldwide. High blood pressure is the leading global cause of premature death, accounting for almost ten million deaths in 2015.”

“ESC guidelines recommend medication to reduce the risk of stroke and heart disease. A healthy lifestyle is also advised, including salt restriction, alcohol moderation, healthy eating, regular exercise, weight control, and smoking cessation.”
