Near death experience: Woman 'sees Virgin Mary' in glimpse of the afterlife

Many people who have suffered a near-death experience (NDE) claim to have had a glimpse of the afterlife, but not many accounts are as vivid as this. A person named Debbie has shared her mother’s brush with death, who claimed to have seen the Virgin Mary.

The mother of Christ was apparently accompanied by cherubs who danced in the garden.

Debbie says her mother was on the brink of death following a battle with a brain tumour, but Debbie says the Virgin Mary showed mercy and allowed her mother to live.

Sharing her mother’s experience on the Near Death Experience Research Foundation, Debbie said: “When she was about 25 years old, she had to have surgery to remove a brain tumour.

“While in surgery, she remembered lying in bed and suddenly seeing a bright light outside the window.

“In the yard were several cherubs dancing around a Maypole. She said all the cherubs looked just like me.

“While that was going on outside the window, the Virgin Mary appeared in her room, and told my mother it was time to go with her.

“Mom said to her that she couldn’t go with her because ‘Al and the kids need me’. Al was my dad.

“At the time of her surgery, my sister would have been three and I would have been one or two years old.

Dr Sam Parnia, director of critical care and resuscitation research at NYU Langone School of Medicine in New York City, told an Oz Talk: “People describe a sensation of a bright, warm, welcoming light that draws people towards it.

“They describe a sensation of experiencing their deceased relatives, almost as if they have come to welcome them.

“They often say that they didn’t want to come back in many cases, it is so comfortable and it is like a magnet that draws them that they don’t want to come back.

“A lot of people describe a sensation of separating from themselves and watching doctors and nurses working on them.”

Dr Parnia said there are scientific explanations for the reaction, and says seeing people is not evidence of the afterlife, but more likely the brain just scanning itself as a survival technique.
