Cote de Pablo, who plays Ziva David on NCIS, recently dropped a huge hint as to the threat Ziva and Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon) will be facing in season 17. The actress hinted in an interview the enemy could have something to do with Ari Haswari (Rudolf Martin), the half-brother of Ziva she killed way back in season three. Fans of the CBS show can read on for the latest spoilers from de Pablo and Harmon.
Is Ari involved in Ziva’s return?
Though he seemingly died way back in 2005, Ari’s evil influence still seems to continue beyond the grave.
In a recent interview with TVInsider, Harmon and de Pablo were asked whether the threat that Ziva has come back to protect Gibbs from had something to do with Ari.
De Pablo said: “Ari’s always involved. There’s something that has to do with him and some loose ends still lingering.
“You see some of Ziva’s past come back — flashbacks and hints of things that have marked her [in the years she’s been gone].”
Harmon added: “And [we’ll see] other characters you’ve met in both Gibbs’ and Ziva’s lives.”
This revelation follows on from an interview NCIS showrunner Frank Cardea gave with Parade.
In this, he said the threat is: “Something that has been part of the fabric of the show, her character and the introduction of her character from the very beginning.
“This will tie into the lore and history of the show.”
Ziva’s appearance in the season 16 finale has already suggested a link with Ari.
After all, she reappeared at the top of the stairs into Gibbs’ basement.
This was exactly where she appeared to shoot Ari when he tried to kill Gibbs.
Though the threat may have something to do with Ari, it also will involve a character new to NCIS viewers.
In the season 17 trailer, we meet Sahar (Mouzam Makkar), who is trying to kill Ziva and Gibbs.
In the promo, Ziva describes her as: “A woman. Her name is Sahar. She wants me dead and now she’s after you.”
However, Ziva admits she has never seen Sahar before of whom Harmon told TVInsider: “The threat is real.”
De Pablo added: “We are very much in danger. The only way to justify Ziva [possibly] breaking cover and jeopardizing herself and the people at NCIS was to make the threat absolutely real.”
NCIS season 17 starts September 24 on CBS.
