Naughty Dog teases two more mystery games alongside Last Of Us multiplayer

The Last Of Us multiplayer spin-off is basically public knowledge, but Naughty Dog has at least two more projects in development.

It feels like Naughty Dog is teasing a new project almost every month now, as this time co-president Neil Druckmann took to Twitter to promote a large number of open positions at the studio.

Druckmann’s accompanying comment heavily suggests that new employees will be joining the teams for three mystery projects, although he obviously didn’t name them.

We’re not entirely sure why Druckmann is being coy considering one of them is public knowledge at this point: The Last Of Us 2’s multiplayer spin-off. Back in 2019, Naughty Dog more or less confirmed a separate multiplayer component would arrive at a later date, following its exclusion from the main game.

There has been zero new information since then, aside from vague comments about it being ambitious. There was also alleged footage leaked in 2020 which showed something that looked identical to the first game’s Factions mode.

What the other two games could be is the real mystery, although one is possibly a fully-fledged PlayStation 5 remake of the first Last Of Us. However, it’s been unclear how involved Naughty Dog themselves are with it, and whether they’d count it as solely their project.

Insider Tom Henderson, who has often proven to be a reliable source of info, said only a month ago that both the remake and multiplayer game are on track to release this year.

Considering the Last Of Us TV show is expected to premiere in 2022, Henderson’s claims are certainly believable. Having at least one of these games out at around the same time would make for great synergy and cross-promotion potential.

This just leaves the third game, which is definitely harder to narrow down. Common guesses include a Last Of Us Part 3 and a new Uncharted, the latter of which Naughty Dog itself suggested could be a possibility.

However, it could just as easily be an entirely new franchise, which they’ve also hinted at before.
