Nathalie Emmanuel: ‘That’s the main thing’ Game of Thrones’ Missandei reveals show regrets

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Game of Thrones season eight, episode four.

Nathalie Emmanuel, 30, has played Missandei since she was liberated by Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke) back in season three of Game of Thrones.

And fans were devastated watching Game of Thrones season eight, episode four as Missandei met her demise.

The translator and the Mother of Dragons’ aide was executed after she got caught and taken to Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey).

Nathalie has now spoken about her death on the show and addressed the regrets she had.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Nathalie admitted she wished she had some fighting scenes.

Speaking about her regrets, she spilled: “Fighting, that’s the main thing. [Emilia Clarke] and I enjoyed our lovely friendship scenes and we had those in season 3 through 5, though we haven’t had ones lately.”

She went on: “I would have loved to see Missandei fighting. I think that’s just me projecting onto her that I want to see her being a badass with a sword or bow and arrow.”

The British actress continued: “I feel like a bow and arrow would be her thing as it’s super specific and requires a lot of skill.

“I guess I was relieved to not be doing 11 weeks of night shoots but there’s a part of me that’s a little sad Missandei didn’t throw down in the battle.”

Grey Worm star, Jacob Anderson, admitted he found Missandei’s death “heartbreaking” as the character watched his love get beheaded.

The actor told the publication: “I found it heartbreaking for a number of reasons.”

He continued: “There’s like a cruel inevitability in this show where anybody who finds that happiness is going to have to watch that taken away from them.”

Jacob added: “She’s come through so much s**t that she’s had to deal with her life. As soon as it looks like they’re about to enjoy it, it all gets snatched away. So I didn’t expect it and I had to lay down the script for a bit.”

Meanwhile, fans were also outraged with Missandei’s death with many commenting on the scene on Twitter.

One person hoped Missandei and Grey Worm would live a happy life together and wrote: “MISSANDEI DESERVED TO LIVE A LONG AND FULL LIFE IN NAATH WITH GREYWORM LIKE THEY TALKED ABOUT #GameofThrones #Missandei.”

Another said: “Seeing Greyworm’s face as they beheaded Missandei was the most painful thing ever #GameofThrones.”

A third added: “I have never felt the fiery rage of a tv character’s death as what I just felt for Missandei! I stood up in my living room and now I’m crying angry tears!!! Daenerys better scorch f*****g Earth!!!!! PERIOD.”

“I’m actually so angry they killed missandei #GameOfThrones,” one fan wrote.

Game of Thrones episode four, season eight will air on HBO at 9pm Sunday and will be simulcast in the UK at 2am Monday and at 9pm.
