NASA’s spacewalk on Friday, October 18, marked an incredible milestone in NASA’s 61-year history. Astronauts Christina Koch and Jessica Meir became the first all-female duo to perform repairs on the International Space Station (ISS). The astronauts were tasked with replacing a failed part of the space station’s power systems.
The spacewalk clocked in at seven hours and 17 minutes, running over NASA’s initial five-and-a-half-hour plan.
The spacewalk also marked the 221st time astronauts on the ISS performed an EVA or extravehicular activity.

Mrs Koch, who is now a seasoned spacewalker, ventured out into the unknown of space for the fourth time.

Ms Meir, however, braved the vacuum of space for the very first time in her budding astronaut career.
The astronaut shared a picture with his colleagues in their iconic white spacesuits, congratulating them for carrying out the mission.
He said: “Crew photos just before @Astro_Jessica and @Astro_Christina made the first #AllWomanSpacewalk on Friday.
“Not only did they make history, their perfect execution saved an entire power channel on @SpaceStation! #AstroSisters #SpaceHeroes”
The space station picture also features ISS Commander Luca Parmitano from Italy and Russian cosmonauts Alexander Skvortsov and Oleg Skripochka.
