NAPOLI 0-0 ARSENAL

12: I’m watching this clash with an Arsenal fan sitting directly opposite. He started complaining at the 28-second mark despite the fact Arsenal have started in exceptional fashion.

9: There’s already been a goal at Stamford Bridge with Pedro opening the scoring. That’s 2-0 on aggregate.

Back in Naples, plenty of optimism for Arsenal supporters. The Gunners have been very threatening indeed and look to have the beating on Napoli with most of the possession taking place in the Italian’s territory.

NAPOLI 0-0 ARSENAL

6: Unai Emery has lined up 3-4-1-2 here with Aaron Ramsey, Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang occupying the three most advanced attacking positions. Clear sign he’s going for an away goal.

4: Risky. Very risky. Arsenal are playing a really high line and they are trying to press the life out of Napoli. We know that could go one of two ways, folks. No goal-mouth action to speak of yet – and that’s exactly what Unai Emery would have asked for.

3: Apparently these Napoli fans arrived three hours before tonight’s match to generate some atmosphere. I respect the effort but that’s ridiculous, right? They’ll be knackered after 20 minutes. They probably spent at least 90 minutes on this big mosaic display in the stands.

1: Y’all ready for this? Fingers crossed with get 10% of the entertainment we witnessed in the Tottenham match yesterday. D’oh – I wasn’t supposed to mention Spurs!

Prediction

19:57: For what it’s worth – I think Arsenal will progress to the semi-finals tonight. A single away goal would leave Napoli needing four – and I just can’t see that happening.

‘We want to score’

19:55: Arsenal manager Unai Emery, speaking to BT Sport: “We want to win and that’s the first target for us. Also we want to score. We know the difference can come and we are ready for 90 minutes and anything else. You will see us play with our hearts and our heads.”

Ten-minute warning

19:50: And it really is a warning because the atmosphere from the Napoli ultras is insane. They expect 100 per cent commitment from their side tonight – I reckon they’ll get just that.

Ritiro?

19:48: What’s that I hear you ask. Well a so-called “ritiro” is where team are confined to the club’s training complex or hotel.

Napoli were in ritiro after their 3-1 Serie A win at Chievo on Sunday, although Ancelotti said he was not in favour.

“Were the players against it? No, in reality, it was me who didn’t want it,” he said. “Generally, I’m against the ‘ritiro’, because I think the players are better off at home than on the computer or social media.”

Courage, intelligence and heart

19:45: Carlo Ancelotti has demanded “courage, intelligence and heart” from his team as they attempt to overturn a two-goal deficit.

“In three words, we need courage, intelligence and heart,” Ancelotti told reporters. “I saw only a little courage in the early stages of the first game. Intelligence, I saw in both halves of the match. Heart is something we will put in tomorrow.

“In addition, we need a significant dose of intensity. We must seize this opportunity, we need a positive mental attitude and, I repeat, a lot of heart. And there will be an extraordinary environment to drag us.”

Winner winner

19:40: Arsenal’s 2-0 win in the first leg was the 17th occasion the Gunners have won the first leg of a major European knockout match by two or more goals – they’ve progressed on each of the previous 16 occasions.

Jordan Veretout talks

19:35: Unai Emery is targeting Aston Villa flop Jordan Veretout to replace Juventus-bound Aaron Ramsey.

That’s according to Italian website Calciomercato, who claim Arsenal have held talks with the Fiorentina midfielder’s agent.

Veretout, 26, made just 25 appearances for Villa before being sent to St Etienne on loan before a permanent £6million deal with Fiorentina was agreed.

The uncapped Frenchman has since rebuilt his career in Serie A and is once again being targeted by Europe’s elite.

It’s claimed Veretout’s agent, Mario Giuffredi, spoke with Arsenal executives after last week’s Napoli clash and a £21million price-tag was set.

Twitter round-up

Alistair: Glad Mesut Ozil is benched. This is a game where we need energy and tenacity. Ozil is considered a magician by some and I can agree to an extent. He’s certainly mastered the art of disappearing! Grant Xhaka is much more likely to be a rock in midfield!

Andy: One for the Arsenal history buffs. In all our years in European competitions have we ever been knocked out having won the first leg by 2 goals? I can’t think of any so I don’t see the need for negativity tonight.

Chelsea vs Slavia Prague

Did you hear the one about…

19:15: The Benfica fan who travelled to the wrong Frankfurt. Hilarious and dreadful in equal measure this story.

Alvaro Oliveira made the 28-hour car journey from Lisbon but arrived 350 miles from where he should have been on the Poland-Germany border.

Elsewhere…

19:10: Plenty on offer tonight in the Europa League. Four fixtures to be precise.

Away from Naples, Chelsea welcome Slavia Prague to Stamford Bridge boasting a 1-0 aggregate lead. Benfica, who should face Maurizio Sarri’s side in the semi-finals, travel to Frankfurt. That’s 4-2 on aggregate. Valencia also host Villarreal with a 3-1 advantage from the first leg.

Arsenal or Napoli will face the winner of the all-Spanish tie.

Team News

19:00: Unai Emery makes five changes for Arsenal’s Europa League quarter-final second leg clash with Napoli at the San Paolo Stadium.

Alexandre Lacazette comes in to partner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in attack while Petr Cech returned in goal.

There were also starts for Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Sead Kolasinac as the Gunners looked to defend a 2-0 first-leg lead and reach the semi-finals for the second successive season.

Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti made three alterations from the first-leg defeat at the Emirates Stadium as former Tottenham defender Vlad Chiriches came in along with Faouzi Ghoulam and Arkadiusz Milik.

Baptista: Can’t believe Bernd Leno is not playing… we want to win this right?!

Amir: If Arsenal keep a clean sheet tonight I’ll put my kidneys on eBay.

Barry: I’m very happy with that line up tonight. Emery being bold and going for that away goal from the very start to end the tie.

I’ll hold you to that, Amir. What kind of condition are they in?

The angry boys

18:45: That reminds of the Ordinary Boys – who remembers them? Well I think Preston’s performance on Never Mind the Buzzcocks was what gave them their iconic status.

Anyway, that has absolutely nothing to do with this update.

Kalidou Koulibaly claims the Napoli players are “angry” with the performance in losing to Arsenal last week.

“We’re angry about the performance in London,” he said. “We know we messed up and we’re aware we didn’t show our true quality. We want to do so in the return leg.

“There’s still a chance we’ll go through if we play as we can do, at the height of our ability. It’s still open. We need to be aggressive and put pressure on Arsenal. We’ll be ready.”

The line-ups

18:40: And here are your line-ups. Looks like Unai Emery is going for that all-important away goal with this attacking line-up.

Napoli XI: Meret, Maksimovic, Chiriches, Koulibaly, Ghoulam, Callejon, Allan, Zielinski, Fabian, Insigne, Milik.

Subs: Ospina, Hysaj, Malcuit, Mario Rui, Verdi, Younes, Mertens.

Arsenal XI: Cech, Maitland-Niles, Sokratis, Koscielny, Monreal, Kolasinac, Torreira, Xhaka, Ramsey, Aubameyang, Lacazette.

Subs: Leno, Mustafi, Elneny, Guendouzi, Mkhitaryan, Ozil, Iwobi.

The news

18:38: I was about to discuss today’s headline news but stopped myself from mentioning the hilariously predictable departure of Alex McLeish as Scotland manager.

Clearly a 2-0 win over San Marino just isn’t enough for some people. Game’s gone…

Twitter round-up

Tom: I don’t know how but we need an early goal tonight. If we score first, Napoli will have to score four and that’ll change the game. They will attack more what’ll give us the chance for counters. Take one of it and kill the tie. Massive game, up the Arsenal.

Gary: Come on Arsenal! Huge game tonight. One goal should get us there you can do it. Can’t believe I’m in work while game is on.

Val: Man I cant take any dramatic climax when my team is involved. I wish we could just finish tonight’s match 0-0. No drama. Please boys. I’m an emotional wreck, I won’t be able to take that!

Yeah, Imagine having to work when the football’s on, Gary…

Evening…

18:30: Hello everyone and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Europa League.

What a beautiful day outside. I hope you guys made the most of it and didn’t stay inside watching the new series of Line of Duty.

Yep, that’s how I spend my spare time…

Moving swiftly on, we’re focusing on events in Naples tonight as Arsenal look to clinch a place in the semi-finals at the expense of Napoli.

Arsenal dominated the first leg at the Emirates Stadium last week as an Aaron Ramsey finish and a Kalidou Koulibaly own goal secured the win inside 25 minutes.

However, Unai Emery’s Arsenal have struggled on the road since the start of the calendar year and have won just three of their last nine away games in all competitions.

Should be a cracking evening. Let’s get started!
