Former Manchester United star Nani has congratulated Bruno Fernandes on his move to Old Trafford but has urged fans to be patient as his compatriot adapts to the Premier League.
The midfielder completed his transfer from Sporting Lisbon on Thursday in a deal that could eventually rise to £67.7million if various bonuses are activated, and he took part in his first training session on Friday.
Nani, who also swapped Sporting for United back in 2007, played alongside Fernandes last season, as well as with the national team, and believes his old club are getting a great player.
However, the 33-year-old – who is currently playing for MLS side Orlando City – says it could take time for Fernandes to integrate to a new club, new league and new country.
‘Hi guys, quick message to everyone at Manchester, Old Trafford, all the fans,’ said Nani in a message posted on United’s Twitter page.
‘Just wishing good luck to Bruno Fernandes, who just moved to Manchester, and ask you guys to give him good support. Have a little bit of patience for his adaptation in the team.
‘For sure he will prove his qualities, he’ll score beautiful goals.
‘And just missing all you guys, the great moments we had in our good time. So can’t wait to see Man United come back, playing the football we all love and win titles because once Red Devil, Red Devil forever. So see you soon guys.’

Rio Ferdinand revealed that he had spoken to both Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo about Fernandes, with both of the former United stars giving glowing reviews.
‘I’ve spoken to a few of his teammates at national level and club level. Nani says he’s a fantastic player, says he’s perfect for England. Says he’s got all the tools, all the right attributes,’ said Ferdinand.
‘Cristiano said he’s fantastic, creates chances for him [for Portugal]. He can manipulate the ball, take the ball, confident. These are the type of things that you want to hear when Manchester United are signing a player.’
