Mystery Jets are refusing to play in venues with no disables access for fans, and we could not stan them more.

Frontman Blaine Harrison confirmed the news, explaining that live music should be accessible to everyone.

The Two Doors Down singer was born with spina bifida – a neural tube defect which causes a gap in the spine – he was forced to tour the UK with his bandmates while in a wheelchair, and saw firsthand how hard this can be.

And the 34-year-old is determined to change this for good, working alongside charity Attitude Is Everything to help improve live music for disabled people.

‘That was the moment I thought, I need to talk about this as opposed to treating it as an invisible thing,’ he explained to Dr Martin.

‘Faced with those challenges, you can either feel like you’re hitting a stumbling block or you can smash through it.

‘Live music is one of the most visceral experiences you can have; it should be for everybody.’

Mystery Jets were recently forced to cancel a string of dates on their UK tour – and their album release – after Blaine was taken to hospital and underwent emergency surgery.

The release of their new album A Billion Heartbeats has now been pushed back to 2020 along with the previously announced UK tour.

And the Half In Love With Elizabeth singer shared an update yesterday, explaining he is ‘healing up’ after a 10-day stint in hospital.

Taking to Twitter, he posted a statement which read: ‘I’m delighted to say that after two rounds of surgery and a week’s stay under the watchful eyes of the incredible nurses of the St Mary Abbot’s Ward at Chelsea and Westminster hospital, I am now happily home and healing up.

‘As whenever I’ve been struck down, I am lost for words when it comes to expressing my gratitude for our beloved NHS. These three letters stir a feeling in those of us who’s lives it has saved time and time again (sic).’

He continued: ‘Because they remind us that anyone can get sick or become disabled at any time – and should the worst happen, whatever your situation or background, the NHS will be there for you. Go out and fight for it.’

‘My road to resumption will almost entirely consist of hanging out in my pyjamas on the couch for the next few months, but to make the most of that time we are going to be exploring the themes of the album in other ways, details of which we are hyped to share with you soon.

Blaine ended the post by thanking fans for their support, before begging for record, book, podcast and film tips.
