My Kitchen Rules viewers claim final was 'rigged' after Matt Gawthrop and Luke Stewart won

My Kitchen Rules viewers have claimed the finale was ‘rigged’ after underdogs Matt Gawthrop and Luke Stewart were crowned winners.

Newcastle cricket mates Matt, 27, and Luke, 28, finished with a high score of 92 out of 100 on Sunday, beating favourites Ibby Moubadder and Romel Kouyan.

And outraged fans have since swarmed Twitter with claims that Ibby and Romel should have won because they had been more ‘consistent’ throughout the series.

Fellow MKR contestant Joshua Bonwick tweeted that he was ‘shocked’ by the judges’ decision and felt Ibby and Romel should have won.

‘I can say with a clean conscience after eating both team’s dishes tonight, I believe Ibby and Romel should have won as their food to me was superior in flavour,’ he wrote.

‘The food was chalk and cheese tonight. We were all so shocked,’ he added.

One viewer penned: ‘Seems a little rigged but I’m not mad,’ while another agreed: ‘What a joke. Ibby & Romel and Andy & Ruby smashed this season.

‘Too bad it was rigged at the end. Shame on you My Kitchen Rules.’

‘Yeah, no. I can’t believe I watched this show for months just to see a team which is super inconsistent win… Not a fan!’ a third user fumed.

‘I think Ibby and Romel were extraordinarily unlucky- best all through the competition. Bad luck boys. At least you both still looked gorgeous,’ a fourth vented.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted a My Kitchen Rules spokesperson for comment.

Matt and Luke themselves admitted they were surprised they’d made the final, after they were announced the winners on Sunday night.

‘Ibby and Romel have certainly been considered front runners for this competition. I think many teams thought that Matt and I would be a team that would just fall by the wayside at some point.

‘But we’ve just kept on chugging along in our own little way, doing our own thing and… Bang, here we are,’ the pair said.

In the end it was close, however, with only four points separating the teams. Ibby and Romel got a grand total of 88 out of 100, meaning the lads in white needed a very high score to take the competition.

They managed it, scraping past with 92, and now walk home with a whopping $250,000 price money.
