My Chemical Romance have delayed their Japanese tour amid coronavirus concerns.

The band were set to play a headline show and also appear at the Download and Dirty Honey festivals later this month.

But following the advice of their promoter in Japan, these performances will no longer take place.

It’s not all bad news, as the group’s statement suggests they have every intention of returning.

They posted a statement on Twitter in Japanese and English in response to an earlier ‘leaked’ statement that was circulating.

MCR added they are ‘distressed’ about the coronavirus pandemic.

‘The promoter of our Japan shows suggested that we postpone the shows in Japan for the safety of the public, and we are heeding that advice,’ their statement began.

‘We had very much hoped to have alternate dates confirmed before we announced the postponement, to make sure our fans knew we had every intention of coming back.

‘Somehow, word got out before we could do that. However, please know we are working on rescheduling shows and will try to announce those soon.

‘We are terribly sad to postpone, and even more distressed about what is happening the world over.

‘Take good care and we hope to see you all as soon as possible. Please be good to each other.’

My Chemical Romance, made up of Gerard Way, Mikey Way, Frank Iero and Ray Toro, are not the only artists to cancel events as the global outbreak continues.

Madonna, Stormzy, Louis Tomlinson and BTS have also either cancelled or postponed tour dates.
