Musical streaming: How to watch Andrew Lloyd Webber classics at home

One of the best birthday presents, family outings or night out is a trip to the theatre. Musicals have a way of helping people to forget the woes of the world. But while theatres are closed, a new way to watch the top musicals has launched. Andrew Lloyd Webber, the king of musicals, has launched a new way to enjoy musicals from the comfort of your own home.

The composer extraordinaire has launched a YouTube channel called The Show Must Go On! which will enable people to watch some of his shows live.

The first show to be released on the channel was the 2000 adaptation of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, starring Donny Osmond in the title role.

This version also starred Maria Friedman, Richard Attenborough and Joan Collins.

Alongside the performance, other videos including interviews with the composer himself, cast, and behind the scenes clips were featured on the channel.

However, fans had to act fast, as the musical was only live on the channel for 48 hours.

This will be the way in which each show is released: one show a week will be uploaded for a 48-hour period for free to enjoy from living rooms all over the world.

This week’s show is Jesus Christ Superstar, which will be made available on Good Friday, that is April 10, at 7pm.

The version of Jesus Christ Superstar to be added is the arena version, which starred Tim Minchin, Chris Moyles and Melanie C.

In a video uploaded to the channel to welcome fans, Lloyd Webber said: “Hi everybody, I’m Andrew Lloyd Webber and I’m here to tell you that Universal has come with up with the idea of a whole series called The Show Must Go On! which is about musicals going from stage to screen.”

“They’re going to show one of mine every Friday for the next few weeks, starting off with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and some time buried in the schedule later on, the most important one, my disaster musical By Jeeves and I’m very, very fond of it, and so will you be.”

Fans also have the option to make a charitable donation to a variety of organisations listed on the channel.

These include Acting for Others, which provides financial and emotional support to theatre workers, with Dame Judi Dench and other famous stars involved; Broadway Cares, an HIV/AIDS charity and Actors Benevolent Fund, which supports actors and stage managers through hardship owing to illness, injury or old age.

Jesus Christ Superstar is available for 48 hours on Good Friday from 7pm on The Show Must Go On! YouTube channel
