Muse highlights Aberdeen success as it targets more local council work

Muse Developments hopes to pick up further work from local councils on the back of welcoming more occupants to its Marischal Square development in Aberdeen.

The company, which has an office in Glasgow, regenerated the Granite City site in partnership with the local council and Aviva Investors. Recent occupants include oil company Chevron and accountancy firms EY and KPMG.

Matt Crompton, managing director at Muse, said: “One of our key focus areas is working closely with local authorities to help them ‘re-imagine’ their high streets by looking at alternative, complementary, sustainable uses for town centres. We already have a strong track record of creating vibrant new places, specifically designed to serve their local communities.”

Finding occupants for the site helped Muse’s London-listed parent group, Morgan Sindall, to post a 3% rise in full-year revenues to £3 billion. Pre-tax profits at the group climbed by 10% to £88.6 million, allowing the board to raise its total dividend by 11% to 59p.

Ongoing projects in Scotland include £18 million contracts to build to two primary schools in North Lanarkshire, a £4 million deal for 37 homes with East Lothian Council and a £9 million agreement for 50 homes with Rural Stirling Housing Association.

During the course of the year, the group also made it onto procurement firm Pagabo’s public sector framework for England and Scotland, and sold a number of its long-term contracts to provide management services to projects that were developed by its hub West Scotland joint venture.
