Mum's test showing how dirty your bed sheets really are leaves people feeling queasy

A mum’s test to show the reality of how dirty your bed sheets are – even after as wash – will be enough to keep you up at night.

Sara, from Australia, had seen others raving about a simple method to deep clean your covers without damaging them and decided to try it out for herself.

The results left her ’embarrassed’ and ‘grossed out’, but she shared pictures to show the stomach-churning reality of what we bed down in each night.

The mum completely stripped her bed and soaked all the sheets in boiling water in her bath tub, leaving them to sit for several hours.

Sharing the shocking outcome on the Mums Who Clean Facebook group , she said: “I’m totally grossed out but have to share.

It turned the water thick with filth

Dirt was left on the bottom of the bathtub when the water was drained out

“I decided to strip soak/wash my doona [duvet]. Yes I regularly wash it and I’m shocked at how dirty it was.

“The fact I sleep under it has totally made me sick. I didn’t want to post but my sister Kirsty told me to – please be nice.”

She posted photos showing her bath filled with hot water and then the bed linen left in it to soak – but it was the third picture which left people feeling a little queasy, as reported by News.com.au .

The soapy water had turned filthy, leaving dirt on the bottom of the bath once the water had drained out.

It left the 17,000 other members of the group fearing what their own bedding is harbouring, with one commenting: “I’m cringing because I haven’t washed mine.”

A second wrote: “Wow! I’ll have to strip mine now – eek.”

Others described the process as satisfying, saying: “Go girl! Bet you feel heaps better now, and will sleep more soundly.”

Sara said: “The reaction has been good – I didn’t want to post it cause I was so embarrassed at how dirty it was.

“A lot of people have said they had the same thing happen so I felt better.”
