MUMS are raging against £25 Scruff-a-Luv toys which they claim look nothing like the adverts.
Scores of angry parents forked out for the must-have toy for their kids over Christmas, but have been sorely disappointed.
The toys, which range from £9.99 to £29.99, are meant to be ‘rescued’, and are bought in a worse-for-wear state, with the owner diligently bathing and grooming their toy to nurse them back to health.
But some mums say that despite following instructions and giving
their toys and good scrub and dry, they still don’t resemble the glossy photos.
The website says: “Rescue your poor little Scruff-a-Luv and transform them from scruffy to fluffy. Simply wash, dry, groom and love your Furry Friend Forever!”
Taking to Mumsnet to vent her rage, one woman shared photos of her daughter’s toy, which still looks bedraggled.
She said she felt as if she’s ‘been had’, as she uploaded snaps of the pink toy.
She wrote: “Has anyone else fallen victim to the atrocities of ‘Scruff-a-loves’ ????
“My smallest begged for one for Christmas – being the incredible mum I am, I obliged.
“Not just any though, it had to be the one with babies. ‘2,3 or 4??’ Obviously 2.
“But – once dipped in water and swirled around a bit, it’s meant to transform into a glossy haired toy of dreams.
“See attached photo. Not really what the box or advert suggested.
“£25!!!!!!! I feel like a prize plonker.”
After venting her fury online, fellow mums claimed they’d had a similar experience with their toy.
Commenting on the post, another mum said: “Yes my daughter had 3 different versions of this for Christmas, I thought we had gone wrong somehow but clearly not.”
Another wrote: “I would take it back like that to the shop. No way would they deny a refund.”
A third commented: “I’m so glad my dd [darling daughter] is
too old for stuff like this, I never recovered from the cost of build a bear to
be honest.”
This parent said: “What the he’ll is that? £25?!! Can you complain and get your money back?”
While another mum raged: “Op, we had a rabbit one and did
diligently follow instructions and it still ended up like yours. Utter utter
rubbish – even the dog won’t play with it.”
But the Scruff-a-Luv’s website warned people about counterfeit toys being sold, telling shoppers to report it to their team if they think they’ve bought one.
A statement said: “We’ve been made aware that there are some
counterfeit Scruff-a-Luvs that are being sold directly from China.
“Please be careful when buying your Scruff-a-Luv that you are buying a genuine Scruff!
“If you believe you have received a counterfeit Scruff-a-Luv please click here to report it to our Customer Care Team.”
