Mum whose clingy baby cries whenever she isn’t touching her creates genius fake hand solution

If you’ve got a clingy baby, you’re probably very adept at being in multiple places at once.

That was the case for Sophie Jones, whose little one Darcie-Jane Francis refused to settle unless she could feel mum’s touch at all times.

25-year-old Sophie suspected a milk allergy might be the reason why the eight-week-old wanted extra comfort from her mum, forcing Sophie to have her daughter in her arms or a sling for 24-hours a day.

However, the Dorset mum then came up with a trick that allowed her to have a little bit of freedom while still ensuring Darcie-Jane felt close to her.

Resourceful Sophie created a handy stand-in for herself out of a plastic glove filled with rice so that it would mimic the reassuring weight of her own hand.

The mum-of-three soothes her baby with her own hand before swapping in the glove after Darcie-Jane has dozed off – with the comforter still working every time she sleeps.

Sophie, from Shaftesbury, Dorset, said: ‘It is definitely a life-saver for me. I just can’t believe it actually works. I wouldn’t have expected it to. I just thought I would give it a go…

‘I don’t know what possessed me to do it. I just really needed to clean the house and I put her down and I saw a glove and some rice, so I thought, “let’s see if this works”. Luckily it did.

‘The rice has got a bit more of a weight to it so I think she thinks it’s my hand so it’s a bit more of a comfort to her.’

Although it’s a simple trick, it’s one that can have great results and allows you to gradually wean them off needing constant touch.

Like anything you might put in a cot or bed with young babies, ensure you’re supervising. You can then remove the glove when you know they’re fast asleep and you can get some shut-eye knowing there are no choking hazards nearby.
