TRYING to convince your unwell child that taking their medicine is the only way they’ll feel better is the very definition of fighting a losing battle.
But rather than bribing them with the prospect of sweets AFTER they’ve taken a slurp of paracetamol, one mum has come up with an amazing solution to the problem entirely – and we have to admit, it’s kind of genius.
Mum-of-two Rachel – who runs the Instagram and Facebook pages Mummy Looks Funny – reveals she mixes Hundreds & Thousands sprinkles in with any medicine she gives her two daughters and tells them it’s a “magical unicorn potion”.
Describing her “parenting hack of the century”, the mum wrote: “My friend messaed me asking what it is that I do to get my kids to take medication if they’re sick.
“So I told her. She was mind blown. This s*** works.”
Rachel then went on to describe how she came up with the idea when she was at her “wits end trying to get a tantruming toddler to get up off the floor and take a vile yellow antibiotic.”
And just like that, Rachel channelled her inner Mary Poppins and the “unicorn potion” idea was born.
Giving her 3,000 followers a step-by-step guide, Rachel wrote: “Get your stinky medicine that your kid has flat out refused to take. Measure the required dose and put it on a spoon.”
After this, Rach then recommends sprinkling the “rainbow sparkles” onto the “spoonful of previously repulsive liquid” and telling the kids it’s “delicious and magical unicorn potion”.
Since sharing her parenting hack on social media earlier this week, Rachel’s post has racked up over 13,000 shares and comments.
One user replied: “This is the one thing I didn’t try this weekend with a feverish four year old refusing meds!! I got him to drink his ‘juice cocktail’ once and then he was on to me.”
Another added: “Wow this would have helped so much previous suffering as my son point black refuses any medication. Well done, brilliant!”
Meanwhile, a third joked: “The problem I had was that my daughter would get her brother to take any medication she should have had!!”
In more parenting news, this mum was left terrified after seeing a “ghost” watching over her baby on the security camera – not realising it’s actually her.
And this mumzilla sent her babysitter a list of requirements, including “NO history of parking tickets” and they “must pay for snacks”.
Plus this mum built a chimney for free after her daughter panicked about needing one for Santa – but it looks a little rude.
