She shared a photo of her clutching an M&M Easter eggs with tears running down her cheeks as she tried to come to terms with how different the holiday will be this year.

Captioning her post she wrote: “I went to the supermarket.

“I waited until the last hour so I would be alone. I walked through the aisles and distanced myself and got nervous when someone got close.

“I stared at a jar of Nutella for 10 minutes, because being out of the house felt good. I felt a fleeting moment of happiness.

“It wasn’t until I walked past the Easter eggs and saw three little eggs – for three of my children – that I burst into tears. I couldn’t control it. The tears flooded out of me and I even sobbed loudly.”

She went on to reveal that the reason she had become so upset was because of the crippling lonliness she felt.

She continued: “I thought about what Easter means for us; Easter egg hunts at the local farm, hundreds of children running around each other, laughing.

“It’s about visiting family members and sitting around and laughing and also fighting. But being together where cousins and friends play.

“It broke me. But it was OK, because no one was around to see me, and that in itself was enough to get me going again. Being a mother is so lonely. You have beautiful children to surround you every day and it’s a blessing, but it’s so lonely.”

Laura, who admits to suffering from anxiety, finished by saying it was the “uncertainty” that she was struggling most with.

She finished: “I know this is just like when you fall over, you know the pain is eventually going to stop and the scrape on your knee will heal.

“But we just have no idea when that will be and right now. It’s sucky, so if you’re feeling like me, utterly alone, just know that at least somebody else is alone with you.”

The post resonated with many mums who shared their support in the comments.

One wrote: “I don’t know but it’s making me feel almost claustrophobic. It is so scary.. We’re all in this together.”
