Mum shares budget-friendly rewards box idea to get kids to help with chores

Getting kids to help around the house can be tricky as they get older.

But one mum has come up with a clever rewards box that is budget friendly.

Rather than paying out lots in pocket money, the mum uses a mix of inexpensive toys and vouchers like one allowing her kids to stay up a little later.

She said that she got her eight and 12-year-old to help choose the prizes, keeping them motivated to help out.

Each prize is assigned a colour – bronze, gold and silver – with tasks or situations being associated with each one.

Posting in the FAMILY LOCKDOWN TIPS & IDEAS, she wrote: ‘I took this idea from a post in this group a little while ago. My kids are 8 and 12 and have helped choose the prizes.

‘I have included a few examples of what’s in the box, some had to be vouchers because a lot of what they wanted was to stay up late or robux.

‘I’m really hoping it helps motivate them. Thank you for the idea!’

Other parents said they would try something similar.

One said: ‘I’ve done this with mine, created a box of £1 treats they’ll love as a reward. My five year old is delighted with her yo yo today!’

Another added: ‘This is what I have left of mine… I did it to motivate my son to do his homeschooling because I was struggling.’

‘Such a good idea!’ someone else said.
