BBC Two’s award-winning series Mum is going to finish with series 3, it’s been confirmed.

Lisa McGrillis, who plays Kelly in the series, revealed the news over on Twitter, as filming wrapped on the third run…

Producer Big Talk then confirmed the news to Chortle.

The second series wound up last year with widow Cathy (Lesley Manville) declaring her true feelings for Michael (Peter Mullan), much to the chagrin of her son, Jason.

Although the end of Mum is indeed nigh, which is disappointing for fans of the BAFTA-collecting show, a different incarnation of the story is still in the works – an American remake is being developed by Scott Rudin (The Social Network) and Homeland‘s Tracy Letts.

Mum series 3 will begin on BBC Two on Wednesday May 15th at 10pm.
