Mum reveals her friend CHARGES people to attend her daughter’s birthday party – even if it is just at her house

A WOMAN blasted her friend for charging people who come to her daughter’s birthday party – even if she has it at her house.

She sought advice over whether she should confront her friend over the petty practice, revealing it’s been going on for years.

Asking Miss Conduct, aka Robin Abrahams, at the Boston Globe, she said: “I have a close friend who I adore.

“She is lovely and kind and a truly wonderful person.”

Despite singing her praises, she went on to say: “But every year, she charges people to come to her daughter’s birthday party.

“If it is at a venue, the e-mail will say something along the lines of ‘please bring $20 to cover the cost of your child’.”

Equating to £15.49, she then revealed the mum charges people even if the party is held in her house.

The friend continued: “If it is at her home, there will be an envelope or basket asking for ‘donations’.

“They’re not poor. People talk about her behind her back. Should I say something?”

Miss Conduct advised bringing up, but not to mention their finances as she doesn’t really know what their situation is.

She said: “Speak up before her poor daughter has to, since sooner or later the girl will realize what her mother is up to and be humiliated.”

But her question has racked up dozens of comments, and people are outraged the mum charges for parties.

Someone commented: “Decline the invitation of these fundraisers.”

Another person said: “Just tell her that it’s not okay to do this.

“It’s not good manners to ask guests to pay their way.”

A third wrote: “How disturbing that anyone could conceive of charging to attend a child’s birthday celebration.

“When inviting guests, fees and expenses associated – including entrance fees, rental of sports equipment, food, etc – with a celebration, should be paid for the guests by the host.”

Agreeing, someone else added: “Tacky, clueless, and money-obsessed. And yet she is a ‘lovely and kind and truly wonderful person’.”

And this person said: “If no one tells her then her kids are going to wonder why everyone suddenly declines future party invitations.”

Someone else thought: “If her friends fall for this scam, then they are just as guilty as her being greedy as they are being stupid.

“This is why she has money.”

But this person didn’t see a problem with it, saying: “This pay for play fee seems perfectly reasonable to me.

“The rest of you are the ones who need to get a grip.”

Meanwhile this mum baked her daughter a birthday cake which ended up looking rather rude instead.

Another naughty cake – this time from a woman who ordered a monkey-themed design.

And this parent was slammed for serving pizza and KFC at her daughter’s seventh birthday.
