Mum-of-16 shows off her gigantic £232 weekly food shop – including 72 eggs, 36 litres of milk and 30 chicken drumsticks

LET’S be honest – no one actually likes doing their weekly food shop.

But when you have 16 children to feed, an otherwise tedious trip to the supermarket is a task you have to approach as military operation – as one experienced Australian mum has revealed.

Mum-of-16 Jeni Bonell – whose children are all aged between 29 and four – have given her 18,600 YouTube subscribers a peak inside her weekly shopping basket… or more like several trolleys.

Kicking off the 13 minute video, the 49-year-old mum explained: “I don’t shop just for food that week. I actually stockpile.”

To avoid spending a fortune every week, Jeni buys meat and fresh fruit and vegetables in bulk – but then stocks up on products when they’re half price.

She added: “So I tend to buy up whatever we need to make meals for that week to add to our supplies or I will buy up on that product and we will stock pile it.

“We’ve bought certain ingredients to go with certain meals that we are going to make this week – and the rest of it, we are basically just filling the cupboards back up to what firs in the pantry.”

Filling up two trolleys with food, Jeni’s weekly groceries included 72 eggs, 30 chicken drumsticks and 36 litres of milk – which would normally be 50 but the family are trying to cut back on dairy.

What’s more, Jeni also has to buy 1.5 KILOS of spaghetti to make a bolognese as well as 1.5 kg of beef mince and 700 grams of own-brand pasta sauce.

For the children’s lunchboxes, the mum bought two bags of grapes, two kilos of apples and 12 packs of sultanas.

What did the mum-of-16 buy?

  • 4kg potatoes
  • 500g mushrooms
  • 2kg carrots
  • 2kg apples
  • 2 bags of grapes
  • 400g green beans
  • 12 packs of sultanas
  • Thai salad kit
  • Noodle coleslaw kit
  • 1.5kg spaghetti
  • 1.5kg beef mince
  • 700g pasta sauce
  • 36 white rolls
  • 4 tins of corn kernels
  • 2 tins apricot nectar
  • 500g peanut butter
  • 500g legs of ham
  • 2 80g roast beefs
  • 10l water
  • 24 rolls of toilet paper
  • 18 hot dog rols
  • 280g Vegamite
  • 36 litres of milk
  • 125g salmon spread
  • 250g cream cheese
  • 250g mustard
  • 120g gravy
  • 2 tins of instant coffee
  • 2kg vanilla yoghurt
  • 250g cheese
  • 12 pack chocolate mousse
  • 6 dozens of eggs
  • 3 Ritz dips
  • 1kg bacon
  • 30 chicken drumsticks
  • 6 boxes of cereal
  • 3 bottles of lemonage
  • Pack of 24 biscuits
  • 750ml canola oild
  • 400g spread
  • 4 1l bottles of cordial

But the one thing Jeni has to buy every single time she goes to the shops is toilet paper – and in this instance, she leaves with 24 rolls.

The mum also saves money on meat by buying strips of bacon rather than lardons that have already been chopped up.

She added: “It’ll take a little bit of time to dice it up but you can certainly save some money by buying it complete and not just diced.”

On top of this, Jeni also buys some of her beauty products in the supermarket and purchased three boxes of wax strips that were on sale for half price.

Delighted with her bargain, she continued: “When you find a product you use at half-price, it’s too good a bargain to miss.

“So I bought three boxes while it’s at half-price and they can just be stored away and used whenever it’s neccessary. That’s the way you save money – by looking out for sales and stocking up when you can.

“There’s a lot to be said about stockpiling products, especially stockpiling products that can be stored away – you can certainly save a lot of money that way.”

In total, Jeni spent £232 on her enormous food shop – but sometimes, it only lasts half the week meaning she has to return to buy fresh ingredients to supplement what they already have in the cupboards.

After getting the gigantic shop – which equates to £25 per person – home, Jeni concluded: “Not bad, filled two trolleys worth… now the fun job, let’s get it put away!”

In more parenting news, this mum showed off the impressive results after curling her daughter’s hair with a pair of SOCKS – and the results lasted four days.

And this mum shared her genius packed lunch tip to stop bananas from going brown.

Plus this mum shared the note she writes to teachers to avoid being lunchbox shamed over her son’s “unhealthy” food.
