The little girl in question is Carmela Chillery-Watson, a brave six-year-old living with LMNA congenital muscular dystrophy.

Her condition has forced Carmela to shelter at home due to the coronavirus outbreak, as she is considered a vulnerable person.

As Carmela’s father is a key worker who has been working as a delivery driver throughout the pandemic, he hadn’t been allowed to see his daughter for four months.

A heartwarming clip of the moment he was finally allowed to read his little girl to sleep was captured and shared on Carmela’s updates page.

What is Muscular Dystrophy?

  • Muscular dystrophy is the generic term for a genetic condition that sees the muscles in the body weaken and eventually waste away.
  • It is caused by a mutation in genes that the sufferer inherits from their parents and often runs in families.
  • There are many types of the disease and some don’t cause disability or affect life expectancy.
  • However, some variations including Duchenne and limb-girdle can be fatal
  • As there are many different types of muscular dystrophy, the symptoms can vary depending on the variation.
  • However, one symptom all sufferers have is a muscle weakness, but again the severity of this is different from person to person.

One person gushed: “Aww that’s lovely she looks so happy to be with her Daddy, well done sir it must have been so hard to.be away from your family, I wish there were more sensible people about.”

Another added: “I’m so happy for you, I hope your dad can read you a story every night.”

“This is so gorgeous,” a third wrote. “Look at that smile on her face!”
