Mum is not happy that Amazon included sex toys in their hair removal collection

We’ve all perused Amazon looking for essential and frivolous items.

Beauty and grooming products may be some of the things you’ve added to your cart, but usually they’re in their own category.

But one woman searching the site for hair removal equipment was shocked to find a few items that weren’t like the others.

Mum Sara Keel found that sex toys were listed among the likes of trimmers, epilators, and thread. And she was disturbed.

Included in the shaving and hair removal subcategory were a vibrator wand (which, in fairness, does look like a facial hair epilator), a male sex toy, a clitoral sucking toy (with images of how to use), and a sex doll.

Sara wondered why the miscellaneous items were included and got in touch with Amazon.

Writing on a Facebook post, Sara expressed her concerns that children and teenagers looking to do a bit of self-grooming might come across the images.

Sara wrote on the post: ‘Eek! Sex toys in hair removal products category on Amazon??? Really???? This is a category that teens would quite understandably browse through.

‘Is it appropriate to have “lifelike” dolls/butts as an item to buy in the hair removal threading top 100? That’s just one example of the inappropriate items that are in the results list.’

She continued: ‘I’ve reported to Amazon, hopefully they will re-categorise or remove. I’m not aiming to be a prude but am mindful that teens – children! – might look in this list! Eek!’

Other Facebookers were also shocked to see the items listed in the same area and commented on Sara’s post, saying: ‘Wow that is really inappropriate’.

One person assured Sara that it was a third party seller which listed the item in the hair removal category by ‘tricking the system’ and not using any adult-related keywords that Amazon would’ve flagged.

They explained: ‘If you have flagged it inappropriate and it is, Amazon will eventually remove it from the category and disallow advertising for the item. It is quite easy to list an inappropriate product in a different category by not mentioning any keywords that are automatically flagged as adult. This is third party sellers trying to trick the system.’

Others said children are far more likely to find worse images on the internet.

We contacted Amazon to find out more and they told Metro.co.uk that they are currently looking into it.
